Living Water 2

Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

He saved us. No matter how little they know about what He has done, individuals who have received Jesus and become born again children of God understand (some quicker than others) who saved them, that HE did it. Regeneration means spiritual rebirth (the state or the act), spiritual renovation; specially, Messianic restoration. My paraphrase: He saved us, by the washing of *being made a new creature.*

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

We know we are saved when the Holy Spirit does His regenerating work and reveals it to us.

John 7:37: In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Jesus told us that living water is the Holy Spirit, or perhaps the fruit of the Spirit. The rivers of living water are unseen and they are spiritual. They are not made up of H2O. I find no reason to believe that the living waters spoken of in the Bible are anything other than the Holy Spirit.

John 3:8: The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

We cannot see wind but we can see what wind does.

John 4:10: Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

Jesus is the source of living water. A well is not.

John 4:13: Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

When we drink H2O we will thirst again. But when Jesus gives us this thing He called water (the Holy Spirit) we will never again thirst for it because there will be an everlasting supply of it in us. We will never thirst for it again because nothing satisfies our spiritual hunger and thirst except the Holy Spirit and His work. He will replace our hunger and thirst for the lust of the flesh with a hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Mathew 5:6: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

This kind of hunger and thirst is not for food or H2O. It is for righteousness. When we receive Jesus He makes us righteous in the eyes of God and His living in us causes us to want to do righteous things.

1 Corinthians 1:30: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Proverbs 8:13: The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Hating evil (in ourselves and not just in others) is also evidence that we are saved.
